Research Interests<\/h5><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Crespo focuses on reducing health disparities and implementing multilevel community and family interventions to prevent chronic diseases among Latino and marginalized populations. He has experience conducting large-scale, multilevel interventions to promote physical activity and healthy eating. Dr. Crespo also studies the health consequences of sedentary behavior and develops behavioral interventions to reduce it in workplace settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, he has conducted research to develop and test effective strategies to prevent COVID-19, increase COVID-19 testing, and expand vaccination in marginalized communities. His research has been carried out in collaboration with diverse organizations, including schools, workplaces, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and parks and recreation centers. He has served as principal investigator and co-investigator in several large-scale randomized controlled trials for obesity prevention. Currently, he is the principal investigator of three NIH R01 projects aimed at evaluating behavioral interventions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in households and communities among Latino patients; a clinical\/community intervention to promote COVID-19 vaccination among Latinos in San Diego; and a binational multilevel trial to promote physical activity, reduce obesity, and improve diet among Latino parents and children in San Diego and Mexicali. He is also the principal investigator of ALIADOS, a predoctoral T32 training program funded by NIMHD, focused on Latino health and multilevel interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
