Dr. Miguel Angel Zavala Perez

Associate Professor, SDSU

Associate Professor of Environmental Health in the School of Public Health at San Diego State University, Imperial Valley Campus
Research Interests

His research topics include air quality modeling, low-cost community air sensors, development of emission inventories, source apportionment, monitoring of atmospheric toxics, characterization of personal exposure and health disparities within local communities, assessment of the impact of pollution at U.S.–Mexico border crossings, among others.

His experience encompasses the application of air quality models to understand the physical and chemical processes driving atmospheric pollution and to estimate its impacts on air quality and public health; the development and evaluation of criteria pollutants, atmospheric toxics, and greenhouse gas emission inventories in urban areas; the development of new measurement and analysis techniques to assess the impact of short-lived climate pollutants from key emission sources; the evaluation of air quality management programs; and the analysis of meteorological processes that control atmospheric pollution.
